Crossing Horizons: Narratives of Migration and Adaptation, 2024
Solo Exhibition, Wyreena Arts Centre, Melbourne, Australia
In the series “Crossing Horizons: Narratives of Migration and Adaptation,” I explore the impact of migration, both personal and communal. These artworks delve into the intricate web of emotions and experiences that encompass the transformative process of leaving one’s homeland in pursuit of a new life. Through vivid imagery and symbolism, I invite viewers to reflect on the universal themes of change, isolation, and adaptation that resonate within the individual immigrant experience and the broader human narrative.
This series encapsulates the journey and stages of adaptation of a migrant, highlighting the solace that nature offers to immigrants in a foreign land. The surrounding nature in this new land evokes a sense of home; the trees, birds, lakes, and rivers mirror those of my upbringing. My body strives to form connections and identify similarities. Whenever I visit lakes, rivers mountains and sea, my mind instinctively forges a connection with the land I grew up in. I often find myself recalling moments where I think, “This lake resembles the one in my hometown,” or “The arrangement of these trees looks just like the forest grove I visited last time I was in Bangladesh.” The series addresses the dichotomy of foreignness and familiarity in these lands for me.
Through these artworks, I hope to foster conversations that transcend boundaries and inspire empathy, ultimately uniting us in our collective search for meaning and connection.
